What Tim saw:

Category: 4/5
Result: Did not finish - crash!

The field was easily 100+. At start time, Casey almost split us into two groups: 4s and 5s. However, there were only 20ish cat 5 racers, so he let us race as one big group.

For the first 10 minutes I sat in the back of the pack, then went to the front for a bit. I went with an attack but that fizzed out quickly. I recuperated in the pack till lap 5. I started to work my way up to the front, but on turn 2, two guys couldn't hold their line and went down. Everyone following the outside line went down. I was probably one of the last to go down (doing the slow-motion roll-over fall). I think a total of 10 went down but nobody was hurt. Unfortunately, when I picked up my bike it had a flat front tire, so I had to walk back to the finish line. I arrived just in time to see a spectacular crash on the last lap coming out the rolling turn 4.

Overall, my fitness is OK. I was off the bike for the last two weeks of January for vacation, so I might have lost a bit of fitness.

P.S. - while taking my bike the bike shop in Los Gatos to get my front wheel trued (it was bent in the crash), I saw the entire CSC team riding up Kennedy road. They were going in the opposite direction, so I didn't have time to look closely at faces, but I was amazed to see 20+ CSC guys, with several follow cars.

What Oscar saw:

Category: 5
Result: Top ten

So, Del and myself show up for the mentoring session and figured we'd be doing the race at a comfortable pace 'cause, well we're lazy.

Anyway, the race is split to two groups after Casey sees that our group has about 74-75 riders. Del and myself are put in the second group. We start off at an amazily slow pace but, start to ramp it up a bit after the second lap or so. Needless to say that I'm actually up front with the pack on my wheel as I contest for the prime. I didn't get it.

Long story short, I ended up 4th after I din't get out of my saddle to sprint. I just hung on this guy from Los Gatos' wheel. Two things I noticed is that I'm now completing my races and I might be able to do something this season if this is any indication. Let's really hope...Well see ya out there.
