What Tim saw:
Category: 5
Result: Off the back
The race was scheduled for 11 laps. It started fast and didn't let up
(at least from my point of view). I was able to stick with the lead
group for the first half of the race, but then blew on the 5th or 6th
climb. After a few laps of resting, I hooked up with another rider to
pick off a couple of other OTBers.
I'm sticking with the flat stuff from now on.

What Chris saw:
Category: 3
Result: Mid-pack
Raced the Santa Cruz crit yesterday. The early races lucked out and
were able race in the warming sun. 20 laps made for a good race, this
being my first crit back since breaking my hand. Riders were going off
the front here and there but I was happy that people were being spit
off the back while I felt ok.
Sat afternoon I went out on a spin and happened to meet up with Larry
on Warm Springs. He gave me a good race plan to take off at the base
of the little hill seeing 2 to go. So I did and it almost worked. I
jumped out to a huge lead and grew it during the second to last lap.
But I think I started to give up time on the flat coming across the
finish line at the bell. Survived the down hill and flat but was
picked off by the first rider at the base of the last hill.
After a dozen guys came by I sat up and rolled across the line, proud
of my good effort having actually raced my bike. Maybe I don't quite
have the fitness to last 2.25 miles on my own quite yet. Maybe I could
have placed better sprinting for the finish, but I looked good out
there. Taking a chance is always fun.
Thanks for the advice Larry, even though I didn't make it, my
confidence is growing and I want to work that much harder.
